The cool taste of her cocktail hit the spot. What a long day
she had had she thought to herself. Even after catching an early 5 o’clock
flight, she felt like she had a burst of energy. She figured she could have one
more cocktail before she went up for the night. After all, she was in no hurry
and could even sleep in if she wanted to.
“Bartender, can I get one more please?” she asked with a
somewhat flirtatious tone. “Add a shot of tequila too.” Realizing she had just ordered a shot made
her aware she was feeling somewhat frisky tonight. Unfortunately for her, she
was alone.
While she waited, she panned the room to see who else was in
her company. To the left was a couple enjoying drinks and what appeared to be
appetizers. The two seemed to be enjoying themselves as they continued to laugh
and flirt with one another. Aside from
the couple’s laughter, all that was heard was music playing softly in the
background. Jazz music she guessed. It just
so happened to tune out the game that was playing on the large plasma TV that
was positioned directly above the bar. The
bartender placed her drink before her. Without having to say it, the bartender
already knew what she was thinking and responded with a pleasant, “You’re
welcome”.
As she began to enjoy her last drink for the evening, she
happened to notice a gentleman to her right sitting at a table in the corner. His
back was facing her. He had a drink in one hand and the newspaper in the other.
For one quick moment she could have swore he looked like someone she knew. The
dimmed lights made it difficult to see, but realistically he would not have
been there anyways. How funny would it be had he been there of all places.
