New Year's Eve 2013

The room was dimly lit and silver, white and purple balloons littered every square inch of the room. Waiters and waitresses were hurriedly rushing through the crowd serving various beverages. She was attending a friend’s NYE party. She wasn’t really in the mood to be there, but wanted to get out and an excuse to get dressed up. It was very rare that she dressed up, but when she did she went all out. She felt confident and even a little bit sexy in her little black dress and black Louboutin heels. As she sipped her white wine she skimmed the room and realized she had no interest in speaking with anyone. She glanced at her watch and noted that only an hour has passed by. Ugh, this is going to be a long night she thought. She grabbed another glass of wine from the tray as the waiter walked by. She scanned the room again, but this time looking for her friend. She was nowhere to be found. Instead she decided to go stand by the bar located near a large glass window overlooking the city.
As she took another sip she admired how beautiful it was outside. For miles and miles, all she could see were the lights from the city. A city she was all too familiar with and had a fond memory of.  She leaned against the window and could feel the coldness pressed up against her arm. In a daze she started to reminisce about other winter nights just miles away from the hotel where the party was located.

Why did it always come back to him, she wondered.
